The Nigeria Legal Internship Program
The NLA's Nigeria Legal Internship Program, which was initiated in 2008, is intended to provide NLA members, as well as lawyers, law graduates and law students of Nigerian descent based in the United States with an opportunity to intern with participating law firms and other organizations in Nigeria.
Apart from the exposure to Nigerian law and practice that interns will gain from the program, the program will also foster professional relationships between interns and legal practitioners in Nigeria. The program is in line with the NLA's mission of promoting legal education and professional development in the law. Details of the 2010 program are provided below.
The NLA's role is to act as a liaison between Nigerian organizations and individuals interested in gaining some exposure to Nigerian law. The NLA solicits the participation of Nigerian law firms and other organizations in the Nigeria Legal Internship Program and provides details about internship opportunities to potential legal interns once they are available. The NLA will not be involved in the management of the internships nor will they exercise any control on which interns are accepted by firms. Every application received by the NLA will be forwarded to the participating organizations. Each participating organization has the sole discretion to choose which, if any, interns it accepts, and the conditions of the internship including duties, length, compensation, etc.
Eligible Participants
NLA members, as well as law students, law graduates and attorneys of Nigerian descent based in the United States are eligible to participate in the program. Law students must be enrolled in a U.S. law school. Law graduates must be graduates of a U.S. law school.
Participating Organizations
Participating organizations currently include several law firms and public interest law organizations based in Nigeria. We welcome new organizations looking to tap into the unique talents of prospective interns. Interested organizations should e-mail
