Nigerian Lawyers Association to Honor Dr. Kase L. Lawal, Chairman and CEO of CAMAC International Corporation
The Nigerian Lawyers Association (“NLA”) will hold its annual Merit Award Dinner on September 15, 2007 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Times Square in New York City. The 2007 NLA Merit Award will be presented to Dr. Kase Lukman Lawal, Chairman and CEO of CAMAC International Corporation. He also serves as the Chairman of Allied Energy Corporation, Commissioner on the Port of Houston Authority Board, and is a significant shareholder in Unity National Bank, the only federally insured and licensed African-American owned bank in Texas.
As Chairman and CEO of CAMAC International Corporation (“CAMAC”), Dr. Lawal leads a diverse group of affiliate companies that comprise the second largest African-American owned company in the United States and are engaged in oil and gas exploration and production, the physical trading of crude oil and natural gas for worldwide markets and in the transportation services industry in South Africa. CAMAC was named in the 2006 Forbes Magazine list of the 400 largest privately-owned corporations and was named the 2006 Company of the Year by Black Enterprise Magazine.
Dr. Lawal is also a global philanthropist who has devoted over 60 percent of his time to public service. In 2003, Dr. Lawal established a one million dollar endowment at Texas Southern University’s Jesse H. Jones School of Business for the Kase and Eileen Lawal Center for International Business Development. In 1992, he established a petroleum engineering endowment at the University of Houston Cullen College of Engineering. Dr. Lawal serves as the director of the Cullen Engineering Research Foundation, a member of the Fisk University Board of Trustees, and as a trustee for The Kinkaid School, which is a leading national preparatory school, and is active in fostering development of African countries as he lends his expertise to foreign ports. Dr. Lawal also co-chairs United for Children, United against AIDS, a $300 million dollar UNICEF campaign, with his wife, Eileen Lawal.
Dr. Lawal graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and Prairie View A&M University of Texas with a Master’s degree in business administration, finance and marketing. He was awarded an honorary doctorate in Philosophy from Fort Valley State University.
